General MDC

The wallpaper (MDC resource guide background) on the MDC has disappeared, how do I get it back?

The wallpaper can only be set on systems running Windows XP. If you have Windows7, you will have a shortcut icon on your desktop to access the wallpaper.

OSSI MCT

When I double click the MCT icon, the screen flashes but nothing opens, I get an "out of memory error" or MCT is just acting "buggy". What do I do?

First, reboot your computer. This will flush out some files that have been known to cause data corruption. If it doesn't fix your issues, reboot again (do not log in to MCT yet), and run a mobile update. Give it another try. If that still doesn't do the trick, contact the PDHelpdesk.

When I click the F12 (Reports) button in OSSI MCT (or when I click the "Supervisor" button on the F12 screen), an error comes up on the screen?

Run a mobile update. That will fix the issue 95% of the time.

I am using Outlook Web Access and am trying to open an attachment, but it keeps opening a folder or it saves it as a .zip file?

There is an issue with Internet Explorer and Office 2007 extensions. Click on this document to find out how to enter the city email web address as an "trusted site", so that you can save that file to your computer and open it up.

How do I create a distribution list in my email?

Log into your email account. On the left, click on "contacts". You will see a button to create a NEW contact and there is a little drop down arrow to the right of it. Click on the drop down arrow. A menu will appear, click on "group". In the "name" field, enter the name of your list (ex: commanders, hostage team, etc). Try to keep it short and sweet, as you will be typing this later. If you are using Outlook on a domain computer, click on the "add members" button, then select "from address book" and you will be prompted to pick your users from the durham city global address list. When you find your user, highlight the name and click the "members" button at the bottom of the screen. Do this for every user you wan to add. If you are using the Web Outlook version, click on "members" on the left hand side of the screen. At the top of the screen, there is a search bar. Enter the last name of the person and click the search icon (or press enter). When the name appears, highlight it and click the "members" button at the bottom. Do this for every name you want to add. When you are done adding all the names click OK. Click "save and close" in teh top left hand corner to save the new group you created. Now when you want to send an email to the group, you can just go to your new/blank email and in the TO: field, just type the name of your list.

How do I setup a recurring appointment/reminder on my calendar?

  1. Log on to your email
  2. In the left hand pane, left click on Calendar
  3. On the tool bar, left click the New button
  4. In the Subject line, type why you are creating the appointment: Ex: Change DCI password
  5. Left click on the Recurrence button. This is where you enter how often you want the reminder/appointment to occur. Is it daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. Do you want this reminder to have an end date, if so, fill in those appropriate blocks. Click OK
  6. Make sure there is a check mark in the “Reminder” block. Set whatever reminder time you want (15 mins, hours, or days notice)
  7. Click save and close

I submitted my report to DMV, but the status still shows locked and validated on my MDC. What's going on?

Every time you do a send/receive, the info is being updated on that computer only. For example: I submit a report to DMV from Car 111 MDC. The status is validated/locked. DMV accepts the report at 7am the next day. On that day, I get Car 112 MDC. I do a send/receive. The status will be updated on Car 112's MDC to show the report has been accepted. Car 111 MDC's will never get updated, so it will always show that it is validated/locked.

How can I find out if a report has been accepted by DMV?

All personnel have now (2017) been authorized to have access to Crashweb, so if you don't have it, send an email to Cris Moody asking for access (you must have an NCID account in order to get access from DMV). Or, all Supervisors are supposed to have access. You can ask them, contact the PDHelpdesk, or Records for assistance as well.

How often should I do a send/receive?

DAILY!!. Keep in mind that even though your supervisor approves a report, DMV can still reject it. That is why you should do a send/receive daily (even if you don't have any tracs reports to file) to ensure nothing has been rejected. If you get a message that there are reports to be received, make sure you go back to your forms manager screen, refresh it, and see what the status of these reports is. If any reports are rejected, they are on that specific computer and need to be fixed from that computer.

I need to print to a network printer, but it isn't in my printer options. How do I add it?

On your networked system (this will not work for MDC's), click START, then RUN. In the box, type: \\pd-prtsvr,then press the enter key. When the window appears with all the printers, double click the one that you wish to select. Wait a few minutes and once the software installs, a small white box will appear. Close it out. Close the window with all the printers. If you need to make this printer your default, go to START-DEVICES & PRINTERS. Locate the printer. RIGHT mouse click on it, then left click on “set as default”.
