Funded by the insurance industry, this organization can be reached 24/7 in matters
involving theft or recovery of construction equipment. Operators can assist in
locating secondary PINs if no serial # is readily apparent.
Can refer civilians to the NER to have their equipment registered to prevent theft.

  • last six digits of the VIN
  • name of the vehicle owner
If you respond to a motor vehicle theft, ask if the vehicle was equipped with OnStar.
Even if the subscription is expired, the call center can still activate the locator
equipment as long as the battery is still connected to the vehicle.
There are a number of vehicles that are equipped with the OnStar service. OnStar
began in the fall of 1996 as a subsidiary of GM, and currently has over 2 million
subscribers. The company is based out of Troy, MI; there is a second call center
near Charlotte, NC.

Duke Pharmacy

To identify an unknown prescription drug contact the pharmacy. Identify yourself as a police officer and then describe the drug to the pharmacist, "yellow, non-coated, round tablet, it is scored in half and is imprinted with WC-123." They can check a database and ID the drug and what schedule it is if it's controlled. Of course, the sample should be sent to the SBI lab for definitive ID. An alternate source is the Carolinas Poison Center in Charlotte.
